There may be several volumes about a particular cat in a hat by Dr. Seuss on the shelves at the Roscoe branch of the Livingston Manor-Roscoe Library, but there’s only one cat in a window. That cat’s name is Sunny and his caretaker is library staffer Alice Banks. Alice found him when he was just a kitten, and the library has had him ever since.

Sunny likes sitting by the window, watching all the birds and people go by, and in the winter he likes watching the snow fall. The library staff also keep a computer screen on a YouTube feed so he can watch videos of birds throughout the day.

Sunny is now about six years old and is very well behaved. He has lots of fun playing with his many toys, though kids visiting the library often enjoy playing with them, too! But he gets the most pleasure from simply lying in his window seat. He gets groomed once a day, seeking Alice out if she isn’t quick enough to find him after his dinner.

Speaking of Sunny’s dinner, Alice said she feeds him the same amount and brand of food her cats at home get, but somehow he is bigger and chunkier than they are. And if he finds a mouse in the library, he clearly finds his food more appealing, because he leaves the little critter in the middle of the floor for Alice to find when she gets to the library the next morning.

Sunny has fun at night all by himself in the library, because the staff keep his computer monitor running to keep him from feeling bored. He clearly knows he’s safer inside than out, because nothing can get to him or hurt him in the library, even when dogs start barking at him through the window.

So, Sunny knows he’s got a good life. And if he ever gets really, really bored, he has a little desk where he can sit and read any one of the scores of books the library has about cats.
